CIO Shel Waggener to step down April 30

Summary: On March 15, 2012, AVC-IT & CIO Shel Waggener announced he will be leaving Berkeley to join Internet2 as Senior Vice President, where he will provide executive leadership for Internet2 NET+ Services. Shel will continue to serve as campus AVC-IT & CIO through April 30, 2012.

Business Continuity Planning for IST Managed Systems

Summary: Subscribing to IST services for hosting your applications or for centrally funded systems does not necessarily guarantee that a full continuity plan or remote site is included. Recovery services can be provided for most; and many do subscribe, but it costs extra which means that customers sometimes choose to add that additional protection and other times they elect not to.

Production Control Shared Service Center update

IST is pleased to announce the completion of staffing for the Production Control Shared Service Center (PCSSC) as of October 1, 2011. In mid-2010, the CIOs of UCOP, UCSF, and UC Berkeley decided to consolidate their individual production control functions into a single shared service center operated by a single team who would provide production control services for all three campuses. The main focus of the PCSSC is timely, efficient, and cost-effective workload automation across the mainframe and distributed environments.
